A few choice comments…a few things learned

This past weekend, we made the 11+ hour trip from Home Sweet Home to Dave’s folks in Illinois.  Round trip, we are looking at nearly 24 hours of the 4 of us either in a car, in a rest stop, or in a restaurant.
That’s nearly 24 hours of blog fodder, folks.  Here are the highlights.

Jake: [...]

Another first!

Tomorrow, we are headed to Illinois.
While this isn’t the first time we’ve been to Illinois since we’ve moved to Maryland, it IS the first time we’ve driven straight there without breaking up the trip.
We usually stop in Ohio…6 hours from Maryland to Ohio…7 hours from Ohio to Illinois.
This time, we’re barreling through.
It should be about [...]

One Year

One year ago today, the moving truck showed up at the house.
They unloaded everything from that house and put it into this house.
Very few things were lost.
Our first meal in this house was McDonald’s…eaten while we sat on boxes and used boxes as a table.
That was the only and only time in my life I [...]

Stomping grounds

This past weekend, we all went to Ohio to surprise the family. We  had a great time with everybody, but as we drove from house to house visiting, I noticed something.
The city I visited is not the city I grew up in.
Business after business that I remembered from my childhood was boarded up.  The new [...]

Reliazation

Spring Break hit me like a ton of bricks.  I’ve been on edge with Emma lately…that’s putting it mildly.  Having Jake around full time, too, brought out Evil Mommy.
Evil Mommy is not nice to be around.  I don’t even like to be around Evil Mommy, but lately she’s hard to get away from.
After yelling at [...]

STINKER!

Today, Jacob is going to experience a “first” here in Maryland.  It’s a first that even Dave and I haven’t experienced yet.
He’s going on a field trip today.  We’ve known about it since we moved here back in October and as soon as I found out what it was I decided I would do what [...]

Pearly Whites are not our forte

Evidently, the teeth standards here in Maryland are much higher than they were in Ohio.
I’ve always had teeth problems.  Cavities.  An extraction.  Braces.  Jaw surgery.  A bone graft in my jaw (which was taken from my hip). An implant.  My x-ray looks like a mine field.
Dave has had his fair share of teeth issues as [...]

Here comes the sun

Yesterday was a good day.
The sun was shining and temperatures soared.  We spent so much time outside either playing with the kids or watching Jake and Emma play with everyone else in the neighborhood.
There was basketball, frisbee, scooters, bikes, bubbles, and pink motorized cars.  Kids ran in and out of each others houses as the [...]

Will the real Dottie please stand up?

One of the things that we had to do when we moved here was to get a new phone number.  That part was really easy.  We have Vonage so I did everything online.  We told our family and friends the new number and went on our merry little way.
Then the calls started.  If I don’t [...]

First “real” weekend

90% of the boxes are unpacked and we are falling back into a normal routine.  Everyone is adjusting really well.  Heck, I’ve even already been to the doctor!  Everything is right with the world now that I’ve sustained some sort of injury.  Nothing like a good dose of Trochanteric Bursitis to make me feel all [...]
