Pencils sharpened and at the ready

Today, Jacob came home with another fundraiser from school.
But this wasn’t just any fundraiser.  Oh no, this one was a throwback to a fund raiser I did when I was in school.
As soon as I saw the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital logo, I was immediately drawn back to when that Math-a-Thon packet came home [...]

Everybody has their role to play

The latest after school conversation with Emma…
Emma: Can I have some gum?
Me: No, you’ve lost candy and desserts for a week.
Emma: How long is that?
Me: You can have candy on Friday.
Emma: Can I have candy after my snack today?
Me: You know the answer to that one.
Emma: There’s a lot of toys in the centers at [...]

You Capture – My Life

Well, my life this week has been kind of all about sickness and ickiness and blech.  I didn’t get the camera out much, but I did get it out during a rousing game of Uno.
Uno is pretty big in this house.  We play a couple of times a week and at least one of those [...]

Open letters

Dear throat,
I’m really sick of you not feeling good.  I drink plenty of water, I treat you right and all you do is give me swollen lymph nodes and nasty phlegm.
Get over yourself.
Please get better,
That sick girl
Dear knee,
I’m really sorry if I put too much stress on you yesterday.  I thought you would enjoy the [...]

Steppin’ out

I’m not sure what I liked the most about venturing out after the rain…

…your fascination with the Mommy Worm…

…or sharing with the world your keen fashion sense…

Not what I expected

One week with no blogging, Twittering, or Facebooking and very limited e-mailing is not at all what I expected.
I thought I would have more free time.
I thought I would have my to-do list knocked at by noon.
I thought I would exercise every day.
I thought I would get through at least one book.
I thought I would [...]

A few choice comments…a few things learned

This past weekend, we made the 11+ hour trip from Home Sweet Home to Dave’s folks in Illinois.  Round trip, we are looking at nearly 24 hours of the 4 of us either in a car, in a rest stop, or in a restaurant.
That’s nearly 24 hours of blog fodder, folks.  Here are the highlights.

Jake: [...]

Snapshot

Just for that moment, there was no fighting.  No pushing.  No yelling.  No hitting.  No kicking.  No biting.  No chasing.  No bickering.  No pestering.
Only jumping.

And falling.

And jumping again.

Seasons Change

Last week, my friend Bob tagged me for a meme about the changing seasons.  I hadn’t ever seen anything like it before and I loved the idea, so I’m in.
Basically, he asks what marks the change of seasons for us.  In his words:
I don’t care WHAT the calendar sez.  I don’t care WHERE the earth [...]

One Year

One year ago today, the moving truck showed up at the house.
They unloaded everything from that house and put it into this house.
Very few things were lost.
Our first meal in this house was McDonald’s…eaten while we sat on boxes and used boxes as a table.
That was the only and only time in my life I [...]
