Of Sirens and Coffee and Handmade Cards

Overall, yesterday was a great day. There were a few snafus, but really…it was a great day.

Even if one of the snafus was a tornado warning which meant we all spent about a half hour in the basement listening to tornado sirens going off. There were several funnel clouds spotted, but thankfully none touched down which means no one was hurt. That’s always a good thing.

Dave and the kids got me a $50 gift certificate to Boca Java and several very cute cards. At school last week, each of the kids gave me a flower that they had potted in a Styrofoam cup so I got those transplanted into our outdoor planners over the weekend.

One of the cards Jake gave me was one he made in Sunday School. It was a fill in the blank type card: the teacher gave him the beginning of a sentence and Jacob completed it with his “sentiment”. The result?

My mom likes to: work on the computer.

I like it when my mom: says that I can play!

My mom is pretty as a: Mother

Does my son know me or what?

Emma also made me a card in Sunday School. They put a preprinted poem on one side and Emma’s handprint on the other. The poem almost made me cry…

Sometimes you get discouraged
Because I am so small
And always leave my fingerprints
On furniture and walls.

But everyday I’m growing -
I’ll be grown up someday -
And all those tiny hand prints
Will surely fade away.

So here’s a tiny hand print
Just so you can recall
Exactly how my fingers looked
When I was very small.

I hope all of you had a great Mother’s Day filled with lots of sticky kisses!

  5. My son got a picture with that same poem on it and a picture of him, but he didn’t want to get his hands in the paint! So I didn’t actually get some hand prints. :)

  6. You know at least one Indiana holiday a year has to involve a tornado warning of some sort…..glad the day shaped up well!!

  7. I still miss the sticky kisses and holding Cory in my lap. It’s funny how fast time just trucks us through our lives and we think that we are paying attention and being in the moment. We are…we did…but when they get older and move into their own lives and are happy…which is what we have raised them to do..there are always moments of longng. Elton John was right. It’s the “Circle of Life”. Just like our parents, we give them life so they can have one of their own.

  8. I got my first hand-made Mother’s Day presents this year. I LOVE LOVE LOVE them.

  9. I think it’s so funny- my mom likes to work on the computer. I know that is what Hailey would say too, if we could understand her words :)

I love that poem too. Glad you had a good day!
