Thursday Thirteen - More Stupid Warning Labels
Posted on May 7, 2008 by Thea @ Im A Drama Mama
Last week, I introduced you to MLAW, an organization that has an annual Wacky Warning Label contest to recognize those “Well, DUH!” labels that seem to be popping up on packaging everywhere.
Here are 13 more past winners:
- A cardboard car sunshield that keeps sun off the dashboard warns, “Do not drive with sunshield in place”
- An “Aim-n-Flame” fireplace lighter cautions, “Do not use near fire, flame or sparks”
- A label on a hand-held massager advises consumers not to use “while sleeping or unconscious”
- A 12-inch rack for storing compact disks warns: “Do not use as a ladder.”
- A cartridge for a laser printer warns, “Do not eat toner”
- A 13-inch wheel on a wheelbarrow warns: “Not intended for highway use”
- A can of self-defense pepper spray warns users: “May irritate eyes”
- A warning on a pair of shin guards manufactured for bicyclists says: “Shin pads cannot protect any part of the body they do not cover.”
- A snowblower warns: “Do not use snowthrower on roof.”
- A dishwasher carries this warning: “Do not allow children to play in the dishwasher.”
- A popular manufactured fireplace log warns: “Caution - Risk of Fire”
- A box of birthday cake candles says: “DO NOT use soft wax as ear plugs or for any other function that involves insertion into a body cavity.”
- The Vanishing Fabric Marker which cautions users: “The Vanishing Fabric Marker should not be used as a writing instrument for signing checks or any legal documents.”

I’ve often eaten my words but never my toner!
You know what is even more scary??? There are people out there that actually need those labels…lol. Happy TT.
One shudders to imagine what may have happened to inspire some of these!
Wow, those are funny. Why would you try to eat toner?
These made me smile. Thansk.
LOL great TT!
Kinda makes you ask, “are they for real?”
Do people really think of doing these warnings? Why are they needed? I have to say they are funny! Happy TT.
Very funny!
Happy TT~

Ok…i spit coffee through my nose! Those were hilarious!
Happy TT! My list is up!
Not playing this week, but wanted to comment. Yep, people are stupid. Bwahahahahahaha. Good ones. Have a great TT.
It makes you wonder…are these foreign companies who have problems with language or we have become so liitgation happy that companies will actually put this stuff on their labels…or has common sense just jumped out a window somewhere along the line and people need to warned. It makes one smile all the same and feel really sensible when you know “Duh! I know that!”:
I seem to remember my niece playing in the dishwasher - or sitting the door of it so many times, my sister had to get a new one!

The Pink Flamingo
Too funny!!
Those are too funny!
How stupid do they think we are? Actually, that snow blower on the roof thing I might…. nevermind.
The scary thing is that I know people who might actually do some of those things.
You gotta wonder about people who might need these warnings!
Happy TT!
Wow. This a great list. Happy TT!
Ooh, those are some great ones! Some of them may be funny to hear the story of how the warning label came about - others, like #12, I’d rather not know!
Oh my goodness, those are hysterical.
Those are too funny. Although #9- given where I live and how much snow we get- that might be a warning some might need.
Who would use a compact disk holder for a ladder? how funny.
