K+, Here We Come!

In January, I talked about how we were struggling with the decision as to whether or not to put Jake’s name into the hat to go to all-day Kindergarten, otherwise known as K+. We decided to go ahead and try for it. We didn’t have anything to lose.

We registered him in March and put down that we would like to go into the lottery to choose the K+ kids. They would take 40 in all. Now all we had to do was wait. They told us that the lottery would be in a couple of weeks and that they would have their list of kids at the end of March.

On April 2nd, we got a thin envelope from the school district. I didn’t even have to open it to know that Jake wasn’t one of the names chosen. It felt like I was waiting for college acceptance letters again. I opened the letter which confirmed my suspicions and it went on to say to not give up hope, Jake had been put on a waiting list. They still needed to get payment confirmation from the 40 Chosen Ones that they would actually be attending. I called the district offices and found out that Jake was #5 on the waiting list. I was pretty happy about that….then I heard that he was #5 of 6 kids. Suddenly, #5 didn’t seem like such great odds.

Anyway, they said they should have all the payments confirmations by April 14th so they would have a better idea then of Jake’s chances.

Seeing as how we had absolutely no control over what was going on (despite Dave’s initial response to “find the other kids and take them out”), all we could do was sit and wait. Which we did, and still nothing. Now all we could do was wait to see if Jake got morning or afternoon Kindergarten. We knew that we wouldn’t have that info until about a week before school starts, which is just music to my ears when it comes to planning.

Then, on Wednesday, April 30th at approximately 2:03pm, I went out to check the mail. And the first thing I saw? A fat envelope from the school district. I tore it open and I am not kidding you when I say that I started jumping up and down in the middle of the driveway. Jake asked why I was jumping up and down and I told him that he got into full day Kindergarten. His response? “REALLY?? Can I start tomorrow??”

Seriously, this is such a huge weight off our shoulders. Granted, it was out of our hands the whole time, but we REALLY wanted this for us Jake. He loves school so much, I just know that he’s going to eat it up.

Now, all I have to do is send in my payment confirmation, and we seal the deal.

  1. How wonderful. Not get the payment in and you are set. How wonderful. Have a great day. :)

  2. I mean NOW get that payment in. and you are set. Note to self…edit comment before hitting the submit comment button. :)

  3. That’s great - congratulations! :) I wish we had a full day option for kindergarten here, but they only offer half-days. I would’ve done it for Abby in a heartbeat if we could’ve. :)

  4. I think whole day was a great thing for Noah, even if it was only three full days a week. I think he will be a lot more prepared for first grade now.

  5. Wow….all day just you and Emma! You guys will have so much fun!

  6. Congrats. I remember talking about this when we had lunch. That’s cute that he wants to start tomorrow. Kayla wants to go to school 7 days a week. :)

  7. “find the other kids and take them out”- that is too funny and it sounds exactly like something my hubby would say.

    Congrats on getting a spot!!

  8. Congrats on getting full day kindergarten. We sent our son to full day kindergarten this year and were completely thrilled with it.
