The Eyes Have It

Today at my Mom’s Group, our guest speaker was an Optometrist who comes in once a year to give little mini eye exams to all the kids. He brought a special camera with him that takes a close up shot of the kids’ eyes to see if there are any warning signs or red flags as far as their vision is concerned.

And of course, he noticed something in Emma’s eyes. Nothing major, he just recommended that she make an appointment to see the doctor. She’s got an appointment with her regular doctor in a couple of months, so we are going to bring it up then. We’re not that concerned about it.

But besides all that, I think that the pictures he took with his special camera are unbelievably cool. I love how close up they are. But at the same time, it’s a little weird because I’m not used to seeing pictures of my kids eyes when the rest of their face isn’t somewhere in the picture, too.

  1. Very cool pics. Not that I want to alarm you, but I’d have her checked sooner rather than later. I have one friend, who’s son had a cateract and had no vision in that eye until surgery and a patch. I have another that has some condition, that if not treated would have severely effected her vision. After I said I didn’t want to alarm you. ;) My point being, just make sure you check it out with a Ped optometrist. My think is better safe than sorry!

We had a scare with Alysa – thankfully it was nothing, but I’m glad I got her checked – got Kayla checked recently too. It’s cute to see them have picture charts for the little kids. :) Not to mention I was quite impressed Kayla knew the black and white drawing of the old style phone (one no one has in their house anymore) was actually a phone. The doc said she accepts shirt as an adequate answer because of that. LOL

  2. What a cool thing that they are screened like this!!

Can I recommend a ped ophthalmologist? Dr. Michael Bloom is pretty close to you. That’s who my kids see for their “glaucoma”….. I’ll even make it easy for you…his number is 766-2006. He’s awesome. Mike refers to him all the time.

(btw, if you’re a pediacast listener, you’ll know ophthalmologist can treat more than just optometrists)
